Work Exchange Program
Spend a month in the US Virgin Islands on a Working Vacation in Paradise! Maho Bay Camps and Estate Concordia's successful work exchange program begins June 1st and ends November 15th.
Applications for the 2010 Work Exchange Program are being accepted online between December 15th and April 15th 2010.
This is an economical way to experience the Virgin Islands and its gorgeous surroundings. In exchange for free lodging, we ask for a commitment of one month of work in one of our various departments; Maintenance, Housekeeping, Restaurant, General Store, Registration, or other specified area. Your placement will depend upon our needs and your skills.
If you are 18 years or older you are welcome to apply. Sorry, we cannot accommodate families with children under 18. We look for enthusiastic people (or couples) with skills that will help us keep Maho Bay Camps up to par during the off season and help prepare for the high volume winter.
We ask for one hundred twenty hours of work for a thirty day stay (124 hours for 31 days, etc.). This equals 4 hours of work for each night of scheduled lodging at Maho Bay Camps. Work exchange volunteers generally work 6 hours a day for 5 days with 2 days off each week. Duties might include: tent-cottage renovations, painting, cleaning restrooms, pruning, filing, pressure spraying boardwalks, cashier, data entry, cooking, customer service, etc.
Benefits include: free housing, 40% discounts in our general store and restaurant, use of floats and chairs at half price, discounts on most water sports such as diving, windsurfing, snorkel gear and sailing trips, half off Internet use and a dollar off the Maho Bay shuttle fares.
Workers stay in comfortable tent-cottages as shown at left and in detail here. No roommate will be assigned unless you request one or we have a high volume of guests.
Summer in the Caribbean is quite hot and humid (like the stateside south) but our crystal clear waters are the perfect remedy.

Estate Concordia Studios, on the south side of St. John, also accepts volunteers from June 1 to November 15. If you would enjoy a more remote location, Concordia is for you. We accept only six volunteers each month and recommend couples because the eco-tents are shared. These comfortable eco-tents, overlooking breathtaking views of Nanny Point, set the standard for sustainable resort accommodations.
The south side of St. John is more arid but the trade winds keep you comfortable. A small store in the main office has limited provisions but there is no restaurant nor water-sports at Concordia. We do offer discounts at Maho Bay Camps' beautiful pavilion restaurant. There is a luxurious swimming pool at Concordia and a secluded beach within easy walking distance with splendid swimming and snorkeling.
If you don't have a rental car, for $1, the public bus makes periodic stops throughout the day making the 10-mile winding trek to Cruz Bay, St. John's main town.
Remember we only accept 6 applicants each month, so if you apply for a position at Concordia, please be sure to note it on your application form in the "positive effect" field.
