Yes We’re Listening!

One of our favorite things to do is to hear about the experiences our guests are having while they vacation here on the beautiful island of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands.  If we can’t hear it directly from you then we read your comments in the questionnaires returned to us or we enjoy reading reviews on travel websites—yes, even the brutally honest ones!

Of the many stories we have heard, here are a couple.  The first is about Maho Bay Camps from “Trip Advisor” an excellent online travel website which offers free subscriptions at www.tripadvisor.com.  The other review of Estate Concordia is found on our website www.maho.org under “Guest Comments & Photos” where we welcome all of your comments and photos of your visit.

Maho Bay Camps

I have read the reviews just like you are doing now. Remember, it is camping. Yes, there are steps, steps everywhere. The island is basically a series of mountains. Yes, there are bugs. If you have been camping before you have experienced them.

Now for my review: My wife and I are not what I consider campers. But we went during the first week of December with an open mind. It was the best adventure we ever had. Starting with the taxi drive (hold on to your hats). The view is incredible from some of the tents (we had one of those views) and the restaurant. Most tents however are looking at trees. The beach is small with excellent snorkeling off the left side. There were never more than 20 people on the beach when we were there. The service was very friendly. Most working there are college kids so don't look for the service you get at the Ritz. The food at the restaurant was great. I always left full and satisfied. The staff was always helpful...remember they are people too, have some fun with them, and they will be part of the wonderful experience. Sign up for trips at the activities desk early. That was the only mistake we made. Bottom line is we will be going back next year to pick up where we left off. Way to go Maho Camps. If you don't like a little adventure, or listening to tree frogs when it rains at night, or a cold shower; stay home...more room for us next year.

Estate Concordia

My husband and I with our three children, ages 15, 19 and 23 stayed at Estate Concordia in June for one (too short) week. We had no real idea of the place at all and when we arrived and saw our tent, we were all very excited and pleased. This was our first trip to St. John and it was such an amazing time that I can't wait to return. My husband and I are considering the work program in the future! We enjoyed the peace of no electronics at all and nothing but the air and sea to listen to, (besides ourselves!) We really didn't venture too far as we were very content to just enjoy the local beach and the beautiful view from our balcony. I have highly recommended Concordia to everyone who asked about our trip and they of course were totally intrigued with your very cool eco-tents. Thanks for an eco-conscious and beautiful place to stay!
